Wado Organzations

Wado karate is largely divided into three groups.

JKF-Wadokai     -    Japan Karate federation- Wadokai
WIKF                 -    Wado International Karate Federation
Wado ryu renmei -

These three groups came to live a little during the live of Ohtsuka sensei and after his passing.

JKF WADOKAI
JKF Wadokai was the first group of Wado karate to exist. Othsuka sensei founded it together with Eichii Eriguchi and others of his students. Othsuka was also founder of the Japan Karate Federation, to be its first vice-president.
This Japan Karate Federation is still until this today the body that represents the four major styles in karate; Wado, Shotokan, Goju and Shito.
Wado is represented by the Wadokai.

Wado renmei
This is today considered a private group in Japan. It is the group of Otsuka sensei II. As it may be a private group it is represented in the world as Wado Academy by Shiomitsu sensei.

WIKF
The group of Suzuki sensei.

The Splits;

As said at first there was the JKF-Wadokai. Everybody was in this organization. In Europe JKF was represented by Suzuki Tatsuo sensei together with Shiomitsu sensei, Konno Teruo in Germany, Ohgami Shingo in Sweden, Muramatsu in Holland, Moochizuki and Fukazawa in France.
In the US by Ajari sensei and Arakawa sensei.

This was so until 1981.
Then occured the black page history in Wado history. Leaving the reason for political bickering behind, there was a difference between Ohtsuka sensei and JKF-Wadokai. The end of it was, in settlement, normally done in Japanese court cases, that Ohtsuka was not allowed to use the sign and name of JKF-Wadokai, but could keep his deal of the bargain.
Hence was created the Wado ryu renmei. This is now a family group led by Ohtsuka sensei II and his son Ohstuka Kazutaka sensei.

From my knowledge Suzuki sensei tried several times to bring these groups together, obvious unsuccesfully.
So to in order to preserve what Suzuki sensei consideres true Wado he created his own organization, WIKF.

The differences between the organizations are largely political and organizational then technical. Although there are minor technical differences.
